The shadows she saw on the lawn inspired her to spend months developing an approach that in contrast did not portray the selected object onto canvas. Rather the subject is transformed into a reproduction of itself, where the surface is the vehicle for its individual interpretation of the subject, particularly when the subject is live or perishable objects for example, like humans or fruit. Alexa's painting style has an ephemeral quality, the only thing left of Alexa Meade is her photograph. Both photographic and painting methods are tightly interwoven that the end result is nothing but a two-dimensional flat space which is able to achieve trompe l'oeil, wherein the third dimension is discernible only within certain places, such as near the eyes or in hair. Meade occasionally integrates painted models into the environment around them. They are able to be part of the world she has created. This way, the line between photography and painting is dissolved.
